Culture House Coffee Company

Culture House Coffee Company
818 Elm Street
Youngstown, OH 44505

On our journey to find the best coffee in the country, we found ourselves visiting a cozy location with a positive vibe in the heart of Youngstown, OH. Culture House Coffee Company is a small coffee house located off Youngstown State University campus. There is plenty of street parking, but make sure that you keep track of time as there are posted signs, on the street, stating 30 minute parking during certain hours.

Stepping inside we were greeted by a pleasant barista. John informed her of who we were and that our java journey led us to their coffee house. She was quite knowledgeable of their product and helpful in helping us discover the perfect drink.
At this time, they do not have any signature drinks, but did offer a Campfire Mocha. Both of us ordered one and added an order of their house coffee. The Campfire Mocha was a latte with mocha and toasted marshmallow with Ghirardelli Chocolate drizzled on top. One thing that we both would like to add is that the latte was good and not overly sweet.
The barista shared with us that their house coffee was roasted in house. It was the North End coffee. It was simple, had a good bold flavor for being a medium roast. One point we need to make is that it did not have a bitter taste. Very good!

Not only do they have coffee and tea, but they offer bakery as well. Note: all of their bakery comes from The Bread Chef in Youngstown. John loves pepperoni rolls, so he ordered one with his coffee. The pepperoni roll had an appetizing appearance. The roll was crunchy on the outside, and soft in the middle. Delicious!

For those of you that don't know where the pepperoni roll originated from we would like to share this interesting piece of information.

"The pepperoni roll is an Italian-American stuffed bread roll. Originally, conceived of as a coal miner's lunch, it is popular in West Virginia and some nearby regions of the Appalachian Mountains such as Eastern Kentucky, Western PennsylvaniaWestern Maryland, and Appalachian Ohio. In West Virginia it is nearly ubiquitous, particularly in convenience stores, and is arguably the food most closely associated with the state. Pepperoni rolls are also found in Southeast Michigan where they were popular among auto workers in the factories.

The classic pepperoni roll consists of a fairly soft white yeast-leavened bread roll with pepperoni baked in the middle. During baking, the fats in the pepperoni (which are hard at room temperature) melt, resulting in a spicy oil suffusing into the bread. Pepperoni rolls are typically eaten for lunch or breakfast, either unheated or slightly warmed.

The pepperoni roll was first sold by Giuseppe "Joseph" Argiro at the Country Club Bakery in Fairmont, West Virginia, in 1927. The rolls originated as a lunch option for the coal miners of north-central West Virginia in the first half of the 20th century. Pepperoni rolls do not need to be refrigerated for storage and could readily be packed for lunch by miners. Pepperoni and other Italian foods became popular in north-central West Virginia in the early 20th century, when the booming mines and railroads attracted many immigrants from Italy. The pepperoni roll bears a resemblance to the pasty and sausage roll, which originated in the mining communities of Great Britain, as well as the Italian calzone."

One thing we noticed was that they were diffusing essential oils. It did add a slice of comfy vibes. I noticed a sign that stated "Be a Nice Human," a perfect reminder for those of us living through these rough times.
