What does one do when it's cold, foggy and just a blah day? Why, you get in the car and head for some delicious coffee. That's what we ended up doing that gloomy Saturday. The Java Highway took us to a location up in Ashtabula, Ohio called Harbor Perk Coffeehouse & Roasting Co. We were excited to visit here as we heard a lot of great things about them.

We do have to add that this location is quite busy. Parking is limited, but we did see some other parking down a ways. Walking through the front door it appeared to be a bit congested, but the further you emerged the more space opened up. The staff was very friendly and helped us pick out the perfect drink. There had been a post on their Facebook page about having an Rwanda blend. One of our followers encouraged us to try it. They told us that we wouldn't be disappointed.

They didn't have any Rwanda brewed but the staff offered to grind some up for us to take home and sample. They do offer sample packets at a reasonable cost.

So you're probably wondering what we have in our cups? Well...we ordered some of their house blend which was Uganda blend. Good coffee, but a slight bitter near the end. When we got home that evening we brewed the Rwanda blend right away. Our verdict...Definitely one of our favorites!

We need to add that they roast their own coffee. Their setup is visible to the public.

A couple lattes were ordered as well. John had the Snow on the Beach latte (coconut and blueberry). We both tried it and Bea stated that the coconut was the prominant flavor, but John disagreed. He said that the blueberry was the most prominant. The drink was not overly sweet, which is a win-win for us.

Bea ordered a Confident Capricorn latte (toasted marshmallow and maple syrup). Once again we couldn't agree on the prominant flavor. John felt that the toasted marshmallow was prominant flavor, followed by the maple syrup. For Bea, she felt the maple syrup stood out more. Another win-win for not being overly sweet.

The hunger gremlin struck, leaving John craving one of their food items. He went with the Olé Fisherman (smoked salmon, capers, red onion, lemon juice and cream cheese). He gave it a "AMAZING" rating. Bea isn't a fan of fish, she did try it but felt that a fair review couldn't be given.

One thing we noticed and it was such a great thing to see. Patrons were gathered together. We saw them socializing, playing games, and the greatest thing of it all was that the phones were put away. The feeling that we experienced was comfort.

Here is our overall rating for Harbor Perk Coffeehouse & Roasting Co.
